I just read this terrific essay on DeLillo’s Libra, a book I finished reading yesterday. It’s an enjoyable essay for those who have read or might read the book.
I hesitate to say it, but I’m afraid DeLillo might be winning me over. I’ve resisted him for so long, but, well… I’m starting to see the appeal. I love the precision of his language, the exact rightness of it so much of the time. Though the prose can tend more to the cold-blooded than I like. Reserving judgment for now, as I’ve only read Libra and Falling Man, and I understand Falling Man is “soft” DeLillo.

The three days I read Libra were some of the best days of my life. I loved this book more than should be allowed and as soon as I finished it I was intensely sad because I knew I’d never have the experience of reading it for the first time again.

I think that since you have had work experience in the literary industry (or whatever one calls it), you are a reliable and worthy person to recommend books.
I’ve never come across DeLillo’s book, Falling Man, before; thanks to you, I will go read it (after I finish A Spring Without Bees by Michael Schacker this week).
My interest in Falling Man is because I used to work at the WTC building 2, 74th floor in the late 80s to early 90s, just shy of the ‘93 first bombing. I still know and connect with people who had worked there till the end.
Thanks for the awareness you have given me of 9/11 that I have yet to deal with, as I was far removed from ground zero that time; and yet, I still have that connection to the people, NYC, WTC. So, I’m going to read that book.
